Human Growth Hormone

HUMAN GROWTH HORMONE

Human growth hormone (HGH), also known as somatotropin, is produced by somatotropic cells within the anterior pituitary gland.

It is responsible for growth regulation during childhood, but research has determined that HGH is also responsible for the regulation of many of the body’s other basal metabolic functions and operates as an acute phase stress reactant.

Adult-onset HGH deficiency is an increasing concern.

Typically, adults with deficiency have decreased skeletal muscle, increased fat mass in visceral tissue and decreased bone density and remodeling, which leads to osteoporosis.

Dyslipidemia and insulin resistance are prevalent, which lead to secondary cardiovascular dysfunction, depressed mood, increased anxiety, and a lack of energy.
